standard by General Motors Worldwide , 12/01/2004
Note: Nothing in the specification supersedes applicable laws andregulations unless specificexemption has been obtained.
Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domesticlanguage, the English languageshall take precedence.
Purpose. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the fatigueperformance of the piston pin whensubjected to design load or other designated loads so as to producebending and ovalizationstresses. This procedure is used to validate piston pins produced bycurrent and new suppliers. Theprocedure is one of the test criteria utilized for development, validation and quality audittesting of piston pins, not the billet. This procedure is generallyrequired as a A/B comparisonpurposes when change to process, material, heat treatment, and orsupplier is intended.
In general, the test set-up should allow the piston pin to experiencesimilar conditions as inconnecting rod, piston and pin assembly.
Applicability. The procedure is written in generic terms to cover alltypes of piston pins, andapplicable to regular fatigue test and step fatigue test.
