GMW GMW3235 Fogging Characteristics of Trim Materials
standard by General Motors Worldwide , 05/01/2005
The test method defined in this document is designed to evaluate the"fogging" tendencies of allinterior and air ventilation system materials. The resulting ratingsinfluenced by the volatileorganic constituents, liberated under conditions of high ambienttemperatures and subsequentlydeposited on cooler surfaces, are determined.
Two alternative test methods are specified with different methods ofevaluating the degree offogging. Test results obtained by these test methods are not directlycomparable and only that testmethod specified by the appropriate coding in the materialspecification, engineering drawing etc.,shall be used.
Method A - Photometric Method: This method evaluates the volatility oforganic constituents byreflectivity measurements (Coding A).
Method B - Gravimetric Method: This method determines the mass offogging condensate on Aluminumfoil by means weighing of foil before and after the fogging test(Coding B).
Note: Nothing in the specification supersedes applicable laws andregulations unless specificexemption has been obtained.
Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domesticlanguage, the English languageshall take precedence.
