Purpose.
This test procedure is used to validate the powertrain coolingperformance capability for coolant,engine oil, and transmission oil, by reproducible measurements in theclimatic wind tunnel.

Not applicable.
Applicability.
For all passenger vehicles and multipurpose vehicles.
Definitions.
Soak: Vehicle stopped, automatic transmission shifted to Park, manualtransmission shifted toReverse with the clutch pedal released, and ignition turned off.
W.O.T: Full throttle application, through the detent. Reduce throttleas necessary to eliminatewheel spin. An A/C cut off at W.O.T. is allowed.
Idle: Engine operating with no operator input to the throttle. AnAutomatic transmission may be inDrive, Neutral or Park as specified. A manual transmission should bein Neutral with the clutchpedal released. In both cases, the service brake should be releasedunless otherwise specified. Theparking brake may be applied to prevent rolling.
Stabilized Conditions: Road load and grade load measurements shall beconsidered stabilized whenradiator top (inlet) temperature is ± 1°C, engine oil sumpand transmission sumptemperature is within ± 1°C, in a minute time period. Iftemperatures do not stabilize,test condition terminates after 45 minutes.
Road Load (RL): The force required to move a vehicle on levelstretches without acceleration.
Grade Load (GL): The force required to operate a vehicle on stretchesof road along which theslope changes in the direction of travel.
Trailer Grade Load (TGL): The force required to operate a vehicle andspecified trailer onstretches of road along which the slope changes in the direction oftravel.
Gross Vehicle Mass Rating (GVMR): A value specified by themanufacturer as the load carryingcapacity of the vehicle as measured at the tire-ground interfaces. Itis the sum of:
• Curb Mass
• Dealer Installed Options Mass
• Luggage/Cargo/Occupant Mass
• Build Variation
Gross Combined Vehicle Mass (GCVM): Gross Vehicle Mass Rating plus theaddition of a specifiedtrailer per the VTS.
Acceleration and Deceleration: Unless otherwise specified, theacceleration and deceleration ratesshould be within 8 and 10 kph/s.
