Purpose.
Validation of the performance capability of a vehicle heating systemby reproducible measurementsin a climatic wind tunnel for city/suburban traffic conditions.

Applicability.
For all passenger vehicles with a heater system.
Definitions.
Breath Level: The "breath level" for a particular row is the averageof the temperatures recordedby the two outboard breath level temperature sensors of that row. Thetemperature sensor(s) foreach seat position shall be installed according to Appendix A.
Air Outlet Vents: "Air Outlet Vents" is the average of the air outlettemperatures at the ventnozzles. The temperature sensors shall be installed in the center ofthe outlets in such a way thatthey extend 10 mm minimum into the outlets and do not touch any partsof the air ducting system.
Test Temperature: "Test Temperature" is the climatic tunnel ambient asdefined per the VTS for thespecific test condition.
Air OSA: Outside Air Mode.
P/R: Recirculation Mode.
Footwell: Footwell is the average of 5 temperatures in each front and3 temperatures in each rearfootwell area. Notes for the floor temps - The temperature measurementpoints are located in thefootwells within a square (300 × 300 mm) in front of eachseating position at a height of 30mm above the floor. The fore aft location of the grid center is at theoccupant heel point and thecross car location of the grid center is at the occupant centerline.(See Appendices H and I).
Idle: Idle operation after the warm up phase as specified by the testprogram.
Acceleration and Deceleration: Unless otherwise specified, theacceleration and deceleration ratesshould be within 4kph/s and 6 kph/s. These values do not apply to thecity/suburban traffic portionof the test.
